Documentation — how to use AIproff

What to do before applying the test, during grading, and afterward.

Print the sheet

Print the answer sheet at 100%, on plain white A4, in normal black. Before you print, find the “fit to page” option (or “scale to fit”) in the print dialog and turn it off: it shrinks the sheet by a few millimetres, and that is the single most common reason grading stops matching the paper.

The sheet carries a check mark: a segment with its length printed beside it. Measure it with an ordinary ruler on the printed sheet. If it reads 100 mm, that printer is set correctly and you never need to measure on it again.

Draft mode and dark paper get in the way: the four corner squares come out light grey and the camera stops finding them. Normal black on plain white paper.

Framing the sheet

Put the sheet on a flat surface and fit the whole of it on the screen, with the four corner squares visible. Those squares are how the grader knows where every bubble is.

  • The sheet does not need to be straight: tilt and perspective are corrected automatically.
  • What does not work is a corner off screen, a finger on one of the squares, or a hard shadow across the sheet.
  • Ceiling light is usually enough. If the screen looks too dark, the phone's own torch fixes it.

When it reads, the score is spoken and you move on to the next sheet. Nothing needs pressing between one test and the next.

When a question cannot be read

The grader never guesses. If it could not read, it says so with a sound and waits — and you are the one who decides what to do.

  1. A short low sound: reframe. Usually a corner off screen or a finger on one of the squares.
  2. Two rising tones: some question came out ambiguous. Look at the test — almost always the student marked two choices or erased an old mark badly.
  3. Still not reading after reframing? Check the print with a ruler. A shrunken sheet is not a camera problem.

A blank question is not a reading error: it is read as unanswered, and counts as zero.

Typing in the answer key

Before grading the first sheet, type in the test's answer key. It is stored with the session, so you type it once per test, not once per student.

If a question has to be voided after the test was applied, mark every choice in it as correct: any mark then scores, and a student who left it blank is not punished.

If you close the app midway

The session is kept on the device itself. When you come back, grading resumes where it stopped, with the answer key and the already-graded tests in place.

Since there is no server, there is no copy on our side either: clearing the browser's data or changing phones erases the sessions. Before you close out a class, write the scores down where you already write them.
